from the paper i just finished; We seem to inhabit a relatively normal star system, in both star type and elemental composition, and so it follows just as our sun-like star comparison that there are most likely a great number of systems out there with all of the necessary things to create life just as it occurred on earth. However, having a stove with the right temperature flame and all the eggs and ingredients needed does not guarantee an omelet will just manifest itself. We would need to have some kind of certainty with which to determine whether those ingredients will indeed combine like they did here on earth, or rather, the probability that they will combine that way. The inherent problem with this is that we aren’t exactly sure how they came together here; this makes looking for similar conditions rather difficult and a questionable use of time. To continue the metaphor, given that we don’t know how our omelet was cooked, its not particularly easy to draw up a recipe to use in determining where to find other omelets, or even where omelets are likely to form.
