This entry is a day or so old. Whoops.

So, amongst the other things I've got running on the linux box that fuels most of my network services is a VOIP PBX called Asterisk.

That was a rather long, unbroken sentence. I apologize.

Anyway, I've got my home phone system all routed through this, and it's quite nice having a system capable of driving a corporate telephone network pushing all the packets along for my crappy little home VOIP setup.

There are some things that bug me about how I had it set up, however. For my own edification, I shall list them in a conversationally anal retentive fashion:

  • When people called into my voip network from a plain phone system, using the libretel number, they didn't get a voicemail prompt, and thus probably weren't able to leave me voicemails.

  • When I went to check said voicemail left by those who used the batphone number, I had to "log in" with the extension number and password. This meant I had to dial the voicemail number, then another number, then a third password number, just to get a recording of someone hanging up. Bleh.

I take pride in listing these things in bullet form because when I couldn't sleep the other night, I kicked their asses. Now people can leave me voice mail, and I can check it with a single button. It's finally a home phone replacement in terms of ease of use.

I win.

[if only I knew why they hurt]
